Steven A. Sahn, MD, is Professor of Medicine and the Director of
the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Medical
University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He completed
his undergraduate degree at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina
and received his medical degree at the University of Louisville
School of Medicine in Kentucky. Dr. Sahn continued his training
as an intern and resident in internal medicine at the University
of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa, and completed his fellowship
in Pulmonary Disease at the University of Colorado Health Sciences
Center in Denver.
Dr. Sahns scientific interests include the pathogenesis of
pleural disease, inflammation/fibrosis of the pleura, clinical pleural
disease, and interstitial lung disease. He has been the recipient
of many awards and honors, including the Young Investigator Pulmonary
Research Award and the Alfred Soffer Award for Editorial Excellence.
He is a member of various professional medical associations, such
as the American Federation for Clinical Research, Southern Section
and the American Thoracic Society. Dr. Sahn has authored or co-authored
over 500 manuscripts, books, monograph chapters, and invited articles.
He is the author of 25 books. He sits on the editorial boards for
journals, including Chest and Pulmonary and Critical Care
Update. Dr. Sahn has been named in "Best Doctors"
on a number of occasions.
