COMMERCIAL SUPPORT ACKNOWLEDGMENT
This activity is supported by an educational grant from InterMune.

NEEDS STATEMENT/TARGET AUDIENCE
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a debilitating and almost uniformly fatal disease. Despite recent progress, the diagnosis and management of IPF remain distinct clinical challenges. In addition, the rapid emergence of scientific evidence has prompted a reexamination of standard clinical approaches. The aim of the PILOT™ initiative is to provide a forum for the open exchange of scientific ideas that results in the timely dissemination of emerging knowledge, facilitates clinical decision making, and improves patient outcomes. This activity is intended for pulmonologists, pathologists, radiologists, and primary care physicians treating patients with IPF.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY OBJECTIVES
Program 1: Recognizing and Managing Pulmonary Comorbidities in the Context of IPF
Upon completion of this activity, the participants should be able to recognize the common comorbidities of IPF and how they affect accurate diagnosis, diagnose, monitor, and manage pulmonary hypertension as a comorbidity of IPF, and describe how comorbidities have impacted recent clinical trials and how they can affect interpretation of results.

Program 2: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: A Year In Review
Upon completion of this activity, the participants should be able to use appropriate features to obtain a differential clinical diagnosis of IPF, describe the radiologic features that contribute to an accurate diagnosis of ILD, and describe the histologic features of UIP that are consistent with IPF as well as features that are not consistent with IPF.

Program 3: Recognizing and Managing an IPF Acute Exacerbation
Upon completion of this activity, the participants should be able to describe the course of IPF and what can be done to minimize the impact of an acute exacerbation, describe the diagnosis and management of common comorbidities of IPF, and integrate the management of IPF acute exacerbations by health care professionals to provide optimal care for the patient.

Program 4: Ask the Experts: Features of a Confident IPF Diagnosis and Changes in Clinical Insight
Upon completion of this activity, the participants should be able to describe recent scientific findings and their importance to the understanding of IPF, describe recent clinical trial results and incorporate their findings into clinical management of IPF, and describe the clinical trials that will be reported in the near future and how the design of new trials has been affected by recent results.
