Subacute Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis

This classic example of "cellular interstitial pneumonia" has increased chronic inflammation involving most of the alveolar septa (arrows on representative areas), producing a blue appearance to the slide overall. A normal alveolar wall is circled for comparison. At this magnification, this pattern reasonably could be called "nonspecific interstitial pneumonia," but a careful search for other features (such as granulomas) and a complete history are required (for example, this would be compatible with acute cellular rejection if this were a transplanted lung).
