AIP midlung

HRCT midlung image in a 60-year-old woman with rapid onset of dyspnea shows consolidation and ground-glass opacity with a posterior, subpleural, and basal predominance. This appearance is typical of AIP, but it is nonspecific and also consistent with pneumonia, aspiration pneumonitis, pulmonary edema, or any cause of ARDS. The patient suffered progressive respiratory failure and died. AIP was diagnosed at autopsy.
