Early asbestosis

Early asbestosis in a patient with calcified pleural plaques. HRCT through the right lower lobe shows small nodular opacities in the lung periphery (red arrows). These represent the earliest manifestation of asbestosis – namely peribronchiolar fibrosis in the centers of pulmonary lobules. This finding is less common in patients with IPF. Irregular reticulation in the lung periphery (yellow arrow) is also seen in early asbestosis.
