Image Library Image 7 At scanning magnification a "UIP" pattern of fibrosis is seen, with fibrosis (F), fibroblastic foci (circle), and normal lung (NL). An incidental focus of metaplastic bone (mb) is seen in fibrosis, attesting to chronicity. The diagnostic feature here is the presence of peculiar clear cells (boxed area) lining gland-like spaces in fibrosis. Hematoxylin and eosin stain 12.5x original magnification.
