Point of Care CME is structured, self-directed online learning that enables clinicians to earn CME credit for researching questions relevant to their clinical practice.
The PILOT™ initiative is designed to provide physicians with a comprehensive continuing medical education program that focuses on the early and accurate diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), while addressing educational objectives critical to optimizing disease intervention and management.

This educational activity is sponsored by The France Foundation, and is supported by an educational grant from InterMune.
Educational Need
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a debilitating and almost uniformly fatal disease. Despite recent progress, the diagnosis and management of IPF remain distinct clinical challenges, further complicated by the rapid emergence of scientific evidence that challenges conventional wisdom and prompts a reexamination of standard therapeutic approaches. The aim of the PILOT™ initiative is to provide a forum for the open exchange of scientific ideas that results in the timely dissemination of emerging knowledge, facilitates clinical decision making, and improves patient outcomes.
Intended Audience
This educational activity is intended for pulmonologists, pathologists, radiologists, and primary care physicians treating patients with IPF.
Learning Objectives
After reviewing the 2006 PILOT™ Compendium and completing the Continuing Medical Education (CME) posttest, participants in this educational activity will be able to:
  • Review and discuss the clinical application of emerging concepts in the pathogenesis of IPF
  • Utilize the knowledge gained to formulate practical diagnostic strategies that foster multidisciplinary collaboration and enhance diagnostic accuracy
  • Identify and critically evaluate the clinical utility of various prognostic indicators
  • Employ the contemporary principles of evidence-based medicine to formulate practical patient management strategies and optimize outcomes
Accreditation/Designation of Credit Statement
The France Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
